April 2001 - Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary By Boat

A boat from which we watched wildlife and a swimming pool from which we watched monkeys

Maggie amidst the roots of a big tree The Sanctuary contains about 35 tigers, generally hidden, and this artificial lake made by the British. If it weren't for our noisy boat, it would have been very quiet We managed to see elephants, otters, and wild boars.
Monica Maggie Duncan Another boat with a serious list

Creeper We stayed at a hotel (incredibly overpriced) inside the park for one night and were treated to this sign The swimming pool. The kids watched monkeys playing in the trees. Our incredibly cool room at Hotel Ambadi
Monica on the balcony We slept in the loft Maggie in the loft Another balcony - note the tree branches. This was a cool, clean, cheap place
The pool at the Taj, a fancy hotel next door. We "snuck" into the pool for a small fee. Part of the Taj hotel
